Plain and simple, we believe in eating food how it was intended to be eaten. Un-processed, un-refined and straight from Mother Nature.
This is how we get all of the minerals, vitamins, phytonutrients, fibre, and fat that our bodies need as well as getting to enjoy its natural flavour.
Our general rule of thumb is if you can’t go and pick one of the ingredients on the back of a packet, you’re better off without it. There’s no such thing as a bracket tree or a number tree! You can’t go and pick a number (303) or (501) and put it in your fridge, therefore you shouldn’t be putting it into your body.
There are a wealth of benefits that come with eating a plant-based diet.
To us, food is medicine, and a whole-food, plant based diet is ideal for those wanting to heal their bodies.
Most disease processes are inflammation driven, or have an element of inflammation to them. Fruits, veggies and plant based foods are all rich in Omega 3’s which reduce inflammation in the body, whereas processed foods, sugars, meat, dairy and a few grains are all high in omega 6, causing unnecessary inflammation in the body.
Although animal products offer some nutrients to the body, we don’t need the excess protein and saturated fat that come with them. Whole plant-based foods are where we get all of the minerals, vitamins, phytonutrients, fibre, and fat that our bodies need.
Changing to a plant-based diet can have multiple benefits such as lifting your energy levels, aiding natural weight loss and reducing your body mass index (BMI) to ensure you age in a healthy way, improving your heart health and blood pressure, and in some cases reversing Type 2 diabetes and many other health issues.
Making the change can be a daunting process. We recommend starting small and changing slowly. You can start by cutting out meat, then eliminating eggs and dairy – it’s important to do what works for you, at a pace that feels right.
Just because oils have the word, olive or coconut in front of them, doesn’t make them whole foods. You can’t turn the tap on an olive tree and get olive oil, it’s still processed!
Oils are calorie rich and processed (C.R.A.P!), they take oxygen out of blood and make it sludgey. Oils also also inhibit nitric oxide which can cause damage the walls of our arteries and harden them over time.
Although Omega-6 fatty acids are an essential part of the human diet, when eaten in excess, they push the body down a pro-inflammation pathway. The recommended ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids is around 3:1 – by cutting refined oils out of your diet, this standard becomes much easier to achieve.
The other common misconception about oils are that they are health foods. When we break down the nutritional value of 1 tablespoon of olive oil compared to 1 tablespoon of white sugar, the only difference in their nutritional makeup is that there are trace amounts of omega 3’s in olive oil. However to get the daily recommended amount of omega 3’s from olive oil alone you would need to consume a whole cup of it, which adds up to a staggering 1,900 calories.
